¡¡¡¡The department was founded by famous pediatrician, Prof. Jigao Shen in 1960s. There were only 30 beds inside the department. The staff included 1 attending, 4 residents and 7 nurses. Yang Shuqiong was appointed the first nurse manager.
¡¡¡¡After one half century of hard work, the department has made great achievement with the development of Daping hospital. There are over 60 beds in the ward. Over 2000 patients get treatment in the department every year, half of them are newborn. Neonatology was established as a key subject of the department 10 years ago. It is also the key subject of the department in the future. A newborn transportation network was built in the city of Chongqing by the colleages. Over 80 hospitals have joined the network. This mechanism decreased the morbidity and mortality of neonates in the city of Chongqing¡£
¡¡¡¡Now the department is the centre of serious newborns of Daping hospital, centre of planned parenthood, bearing and rearing better children of the PLA. It is also the advanced department in fighting against earthquake and relieving disaster of Third Military Medical University.
